Is Your Fridge And Pantry Leaving You Tired And Exhausted?

August 13th, 2010 by Yuri Leave a reply »

fridgeAs a generation living in 2010, most of us lead extremely busy lives. We work long work hours and spend a lot of our time travelling to and from work that it’s no wonder why we come home feeling tired, exhausted and burnt-out. In fact a lot of days we just want to go home, curl up in a ball and sleep for hours on the well used sofa or couch.

But is our work entirely to blame?

Surprisingly – ‘NO’.

You see just like Yuri teaches us in his book – ‘Eat for Energy’ - with the right foods, you can quite literally turn your health AND your life around.

And I do want to reinforce that statement – eating the right kind of foods.

You see it’s easy to blame our work and family commitments as the main causes of our extreme fatigue and tiredness, even though this may be true to a certain extent – it’s certainly not the ONLY reason why you may be feeling so tired.

If you’re filling up your body with sub-optimal fuel (ie; junk food, fast food, soda, sweets, cakes etc) – then you are effectively contaminating your body – just like you would if you filled your car with contaminated fuel. And just like a car, your body coughs and splutters trying to go about its daily tasks when it just hasn’t been given the right fuel to do so.

So if I was to ask you to stand up right now, leave your computer and walk into your kitchen and take a good hard look inside your fridge and pantry – what would you find?

* A pantry filled with whole grains, nuts and seeds? Or a pantry filled with jars, tins and boxes of processed food?

* A fridge filled with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables? Or a fridge filled with soft drink, left-over instant food, sauces, condiments etc?

You see quite frankly I believe the contents of your fridge and pantry have a LOT to do with your lack of energy. They represent a reflection of your health. That is one that is healthy – or one that is tired, exhausted and overweight.

So now might be the time for a fridge and pantry overhaul!

Take a leaf out of Yuri’s book – Eating for Energy – and stop eating processed foods. When you begin to eat like nature intended us to – food that is close to its original form as possible, you will begin to have so much more energy that you won’t know what to do with it!

    Hi Audra,
What a powerful message today. Thank you for sharing. You are so right.WOW,WOW,WOW.
Pierrette & I are full of Energy since our fridge overhaul. It is now full of whole grains, nuts & Seeds, Fruits and Vegetables.
Their is no secret to our Energy level. It is in the foods we “choose” to eat.
    Thanks so much.

I totally agree. What I eat directly affects my energy level. The closer I adhere to a raw food diet, the more energy I have. Simple as that.

  3. Thanks Pierre and Nichole,

I’m glad that you liked my “fridge” post. I think a fridge overhaul is absolutely necessary because it becomes a real wake-up call as to how unhealthy our diet has become.

We’ve just started upping our green juice intake. So every morning we’re cranking out about 2 liters of green juice action. What a great way to start the day.

So now, our fridge is chock-full of produce which disappears within a few minutes!

    Great post.

OK…you green juice lovers….I just can’t love green juice, no matter how much I try!!! It’s GROSS to me. :) (Sorry) I love smoothies, would drink them all day, even green smoothies with lots of kale! So, is green juice an acquired taste? Or is there something you do to make it more palatable? Yuri, I tried your green juice you recommended just this morning. Threw kale, an apple, 2 carrots, 3 celery stalks, 1/4 cuc, 1/2 lemon and a bit of ginger in my Breville. Yuck. I just couldn’t gag it down. Help!!! I want to love green juice! And enlighten me…is juicing better than drinking a smoothie (nutritionally), or is it just easier on your digestive system to do without the fiber? Thanks for the suggestions. Kate

    Hey Audra,

I like this article because you’re finding the root of the problem. By replacing the food in your house, you automatically have to go find healthy food (at least relatively healthy food) when you’re hungry. It’s a clever trick that can help people who might come home too exhausted to prepare a healthy meal and so they turn to snacks. Luckily the snacks will be healthy too!

    Great stuff!

    Hi Kate,

I find adding pomegranate juice gives my green juice an extra bit of zing!

Of course your first few juices will take a little while to get used too, but after you notice the difference in how you’re feeling you will begin to LOVE your green juices :)

    Hope that helps, Audra
