Yesterday was a pretty crazy day for me but I amazingly found a way to eat raw and healthy all throughout the day.
My Day Looked Like This…
8:00am – dog walk (45 minutes)
9:30am-12pm – 2 hour running session with U of T soccer
1:00-3:00pm – shooting workout videos
3:30-6:oopm – soccer game with my team (2-1 win over Romania!)
6:30-9:00pm -2nd training session with U of T soccer
As you can see it was a non-stop day. But amazingly, I had a high level of energy throughout and never really felt tired until about 8:30pm!
So how did I do it?
Well, eating healthy played a huge part.
Getting the Day Started Right
My morning started with at least 500 ml water (with hydrogen peroxide – more on this in a future post) and then the following raw smoothie:
1 banana
2 tbsp peanut butter
4 tbsp dried shredded coconut
2 dates
500 ml water
This recipe yields just over 500 ml (or glasses) of delicious smoothie and kept me going for a few hours. It was a great way to get my day started and a great raw meal to have a 1.5 hrs before a long running session.
Afternoon Raw Menu
Coming home (for about 30 minutes) after my intense morning I knew I had to get some good nutrition into my body for the rest of the day. I also knew that I wasn’t going to be home from about 1pm until about 9:30pm so I needed to have food and liquids with me throughout the day.
I forgot to mention that it’s been incredibly hot and humid in Toronto lately so hydration was essential, especially considering that I was so active during the day.
So with healthy raw nutrition and hydration in mind, I prepared another smoothie that would last me for a few hours. Here’s what was in it:
1 banana
1 mango
1 cup frozen strawberries
2 handfuls of baby spinach
1 tbsp spirulina
2 dates
600 ml water
This smoothie provided about 700 ml (or about 3 glasses) and gave me a good post-exercise replenishment with leftover that I could take with me for the rest of the day. I ended up drinking the rest of it around 3pm before my soccer game.
I also brought with me an apple and a bag of walnuts to snack on later in the day. Oh yeah, I had a 3 cold bottles of water and I also stopped to grab a big bottle of Gatorade (I was out of maple syrup so I couldn’t make my own natural sports drink).
So that was my day and that’s how I did my best to stay raw and healthy throughout. Believe me, when you’re on the go and doing hours of activity how you fuel your body makes a huge difference.
Preparing smoothies and little snacks to take with you is one of the easiest ways to continue eating raw foods even when you’re not at home.
