The Travel Challenge
August 22nd, 2010Well, Ive just completed a 10 day juice fast & am transistioning back to my mainly raw diet….I feel really great, Ive trimmed off a few kilos as well and am just about to head off overseas!!! I surely dont want to undo the good things Ive done & I think I will probably end up eating more cooked foods than I would prefer but I will just take each day as it comes. Lots of walking & sightseeing will help with exercise piece of the puzzle & I know my yoga routine pretty well now. Cheese is going to be the big challenge for me as I really love the stuff and France has the best cheeses on earth (in my opinion) so I dont think there is any chance of me not eating some of it!!! I will try to eat it with fruit rather than bread, if I can!!! Otherwise the mediterranean countries are great for vegetable dishes so I think it will be fine. Good thing about the juice fast is that I feel very light & dont want to eat too much at one sitting so I think I may have conquered portion control!
Will try to post while away, to give an update but not sure how often I am going to be near a computer. Anyway, sun and warm weather, beautiful beaches usually means salads and fruit is all you want! I am looking forward to my challenge of maintaining my weight and relaxing & enjoying my holiday.
Eating for Energy Update
August 9th, 2010Feeling fine!
My quest to trim it down a little is, I am happy to say, working well! I have begun to incorporate 2 juices or smoothies, 2 snacks & one meal of salad plus either raw or cooked vegetables. I feel sooooo much better, not bloated & fitting my clothes that little bit better!
Surprisingly I love the green juices/smoothies for breakfast especially. Heres my favourite:
Either lunch or dinner is a juice, usually with spirulina the other meal is salad plus vege. Snacks are usually fruit or carrot sticks with hommus or cacao nibs plus some gogi berries. So far so good! I am about to do a major detox & step up the juicing to each meal a day using a variety of fruits and vegetables – will let you know how I go…….. aiming for a few more kilos yet then will be all set for a nice holiday at the end of the month!

And the journey continues…..
OK, I certainly have not been perfect on the raw foods 6 weeks in…. it’s been quite cold here with winter in Sydney so I have eaten more than 20% cooked foods. Probably eaten too many vegetarian pizza’s too come to think of it…..hmmmm, certainly not helping me reduce my weight by that last couple of kilos thats for sure.
Today is glorious day, not too cold at all & so far so good! Just finished a snack of gogi berries & cacoa nibs & am going to make the Coconut Chocolate Truffles from Eating For Energy the pecans are soaking! Nicer weather makes it so much easier…I shouldnt complain I guess it gets much colder in Canada!
My main mission right now is to peel those last few kilos off my frame, cant say I have lost any weight on the Eating For Energy program too be honest (too many non raw meals? or perhaps too big portions?) but I have not gained any either…I have also picked up my yoga practice again every other day & try to get a 30 min walk in if weather permits.
I think the good news is that neither I nor my family have caught any of the nasty flu’s and colds going around this year….must be the raw enzymes!
Til next time – Christine
One step at a time here….
July 14th, 2010Greetings from Sydney Australia!!!
OK, so here I am venturing into raw foods in a bigger way than ever before. I have dabbled a bit with it in past – in fact right before my wedding I trimmed down and was looking the best & leanest I had ever done in my life….but that was nearly 8 years ago now….two kids, too much wine, cheese & restuarants it later….
Right now…
I am on week 4 and have done fairly well in sticking to the 80% raw goal. I am to stick to the Eating for Energy snacks pretty much all the time but working on 3 meals a day x 7 leaving me roughly with 4 meals a week that I can ‘play’ with as my free meals (or simply just enjoy those things I still dont think I can live without at this point). I certainly have found it easier than I thought I would & find I am craving raw foods over non -raw previous craves!
I have even incorporated raw into meals for my family, although I do still find myself cooking most days something for kids and husband. But greens and vegies have always been big winners at my place so at least the transistion to partial raw on the plate has been easy enough.
Wheres the warm food?
Biggest challlenge I have right now is that it is winter here in Sydney – although not as cold as our northern hemisphere friends it is pretty cold for us right now at 16 / 17 degrees each day….. sometimes I just want something warm to help warm me up….especially for dinner when it dark & colder – I have succumbed to a few bites here and there & roasted vegies with chickpeas on the weekend as one of my ‘free’ 20% meals (it was soooo yummy)…but the last few days a bowl of cold raw soup has left me wishing it could be warmed up a bit first!
