How To Guide To Healthy Living For Students

healthy living for students

Healthy living for students can be challenging.
Money and time are often tight, and long hours spent studying can leave you mindlessly reaching for fatty and sugary snacks for energy.
The typical student lifestyle is often heavy on alcohol, take-outs and partying. All of this can lead to many people gaining significant weight during their student years, which can be very difficult to shift.
To avoid having to go through the pain of trying to lose the weight gained during an unhealthy student lifestyle, why not make a commitment to living healthily during your student years? By incorporating some of the principles of a Raw food diet, you can not only eat economically and prepare healthy foods quickly, but you will also have abundant energy which is bound to have a positive effect on your grades. A healthy, well nourished body will also be able to withstand the rigours of student life much more effectively, so you will still be able to “burn the candle at both ends” whilst feeling the effects far less!
Here are some top tips to living healthily as a student:

Healthy Living For Students Top Tip # 1

Make eating healthily fast and hassle free.
As a student, you have a busy life, and most often need to grab food on the go.
Set aside one afternoon a week to prepare healthy food for the week ahead.
For example, chop and freeze bananas that can be thrown in smoothies later in the week.
Prepare a batch of healthy salad dressing that can be tossed over salads throughout the week. Mix together nuts, seeds and cacao nibs to that you can grab a handful of whenever you need some energy.

Healthy Living For Students Top Tip #2

Make healthy eating the economical choice
There is a popular misconception that eating healthily is expensive. But if you add up the cost of take-outs, ready meals and other convenience foods you will see that eating healthy can actually be much more friendly on your wallet. Buy healthy ingredients in bulk whenever possible to save both money and time. Do some research to find out which stores offer discounts to students, and use price comparison sites to find the best weekly deals. Ordering your weekly groceries online can also prevent you impulse buying and making unhealthy choices. Write out a list and stick to it.

Healthy living for students does not have to be difficult, time consuming or expensive. With a little forward planning and organization, you can eat both healthily and cheaply as a student, by incorporating some of the principles of a Raw food diet.

Raw Foods For Immediate Energy

immediate energy

Creating beautiful Raw dishes may sometimes appear complicated but there are so many Raw foods that require no preparation whatsoever. If you are in need of immediate energy, whether for exercise or just to get through a hectic day, then simple Raw foods cannot be beaten.

Here are some Raw foods and snacks that either need no preparation, or can be thrown together in less than 5 minutes, for a long lasting burst of immediate energy.

Grab and Go Snacks For Immediate Energy

Fresh fruit is perhaps the quickest, most effective snack for instant energy. The simple carbohydrates in fruit will give you an immediate energy boost.
For the quickest burst of energy choose fruits that are high in glucose, such as dates.
Glucose, unlike fructose, is already an instantly useable form of energy – it doesn’t need to be broken down further by the body.
Glucose will provide you with an immediate but short burst of energy, however, if you need a more sustainable energy source, then you should also fuel up on foods high in fructose (for medium-term energy), as well as some high-quality protein for slow releasing energy.
All fruits are a great source of fructose – simply grab whatever is to hand.
Add a handful of nuts or seeds to be eaten with the fruit for an instant snack that provides both immediate energy and more sustained energy.

Quick Preparation Snacks For Immediate Energy

Fruit smoothies take minutes to prepare, and can effectively provide both short and long term energy. Simply throw in some fresh fruit, along with some agave syrup, and some protein powder and you’re good to go.

Raw hummus and veggie sticks – make Raw hummus the same way you would usually make hummus, except we use sprouted chick peas (garbanzo beans) instead of cooked. The sprouted chick peas are blended with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice and spices (such as cumin and cayenne), and you could also experiment by adding ingredients such as jalapenos or bell peppers for variety, Serve with Raw veggies sticks such as celery, cucumber and carrot for a snack that provides both short and long term energy.

Raw sports gels and puddings – the most amazing sports gels and puddings can be made from Raw ingredients such as fresh fruit, nuts, seeds, cacao and oils. They can be used both pre and post workout, or for providing immediate energy throughout the day.
There is a whole section in Eating For Energy devoted to snacks for immediate energy such as these, where you will find mouth watering recipes that can be put together in minutes.

“Hi Yuri, I’ve heard of “alkalize & energize before, but your book has much more info. The receipies are great! I had been using the them for about a month before Easter weekend & had begun to notice that I wasn’t so exhausted & hadn’t had heartburn for a while so I asked my husband how he was feeling & he noticed the same things I did.

Then, on Saturday, we went to my father’s b-day party. The food was pretty tasty, but it was all cooked & lots of meat – including a whole pig that had been roasted on a spit. Then on Sunday we had a large ham dinner.

Again, the food was really good, but I couldn’t help thinking – “Poor food! It had so much to give & we cooked the life right out of it all!” The next day – Monday, I could hardly get out of bed. I slept over an hour later than I usually do & still felt exhausted when I did get up.

When my husband called me at lunch time, I asked how he was feeling & he said “A little sluggish”. I had a spinach pear smoothie & about an hour later I noticed I didn’t feel quite as tired. Then for supper I made Yammy’s Pad Tai. I LOVE that receipie! Today I woke up closer to my normal time & even went to the gym! I’m feeling much better!

I am just so pleased with my results so far. I am continuing in my endevor to live a much healthier life.

I’m telling everybody I know about the benefits of eating more raw foods and your Eating for Energy program. Thanks so much!”
